The Odisha government, which had closed all government and private colleges in six districts in view of cyclonic storm Hudhud, has ordered closure of all colleges in three more districts to ensure the safety of the students.
In a notification on Saturday, the Higher Education department ordered closure of all colleges in Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Boudh districts till October 13.
The department, however, asked all staff of the colleges to remain present in their respective colleges.
It also informed the concerned college authorities that if necessary, these colleges would be used as cyclone shelters to accommodate the people evacuated from vulnerable areas during the cyclone.
It also informed the college authorities that they can engage the NCC and Scouts and Guide cadets in the rescue and relief operations in the possible flood situation.
It may be mentioned that the department had earlier ordered closure of all colleges in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts.
