Bhubaneswar, Dec 11 :
The very severe cyclonic storm ‘Madi’ over Bay of Bengal which had been downgraded to a severe cyclonic storm on Monday has now weakened into deep depression, Met officials said on Wednesday adding, the system is likely to weaken even further into depression.
The storm has moved south-southwestward and lay centred at about 590 km south of Gopalpur, off Odisha coast and about 400 km east-northeast of Chennai, a senior official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre said.
“It would move further south-southwestwards and weaken into depression later today,” the official said.
Although it will have no significant impact on the state, the ports of Paradip and Gopalpur in Odisha have been asked to keep warning signal hoisted.
Fishermen have also been advised not to venture into the sea in Odisha, he said. (With inputs from IANS)
