Puri, Feb 27:
Breaking a long spell of silence over the murderous assault on Odisha’s Law and Tourism minister Maheswar Mohanty, Puri SP Anup Sahu today told the media that based on eyewitness accounts and evidence available at the spot of the crime, the police has not only been able to identify the culprits but also tracked their locations.
He said the culprits will be arrested very soon and forwarded to court.
Local news channel OTV said, five persons have been detained in the case and they are being interrogated. The channel claimed that the criminals are from outside the state and belong to a particular gang.
Sources in the police said three separate teams have fanned out across Odisha to nail the accused persons.
The same sources had, on Monday, claimed that the police had nabbed one of the two shooters, who had opened fire on the minister near his residence in Puri on February 21. However, the police had refused to divulge the name of the person.
The SP had earlier said that motive of the attack seemed to have been old enmity, but had not elaborated on it.
