According to reports, the miscreants came on a bike and hurled country-made bombs at the main gate of the jail before fleeing the area. However, no one was injured in the incident.

Though the exact reason behind the crime is yet to be ascertained, police have started investigation into the matter. Soon after the incident, Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora rushed to the spot and is discussing with the jail authorities measures needed to ensure security of the jail inmates and employees.

Two platoons of police forces have been deployed at the main entrance of the jail, sources added.

The hurling bombs by miscreants at the jail gate might be one reason for restricting the use of cell phones, SIM cards, drugs, food and other luxury items by jail inmates, reliable sources in commissionerate police said.

On September 3, the commissionerate police had raided the Choudwar Circle Jail and had seized huge narcotics and other incriminating articles after an early morning raid.
