Kendrapara, Feb 22:
The crocodile breeding and rearing centre at Dangamala within Bhitarkanika National Park (BNP) in Odisha’a Kendrapara district was thrown open to public after a span of five years.
Visitors can now get a chance to witness baby crocodiles’ hatching, raising and releasing into river after they get older.
Though the crocodile breeding and rearing centre was built over two and half years ago, technical flaws in the building construction had kept it away from functioning.
Reconstruction of the centre was completed four months ago but it needed a second phase rebuilding which completed in this February after which the centre was opened for public.
According to forest department report, 42 baby crocodiles, 32 yearlings, 55 juveniles – a total of 129 crocodiles have been raising in 10 rooms in the breeding centre.
