Criminal fires at cops, injured in police encounter in Odisha’s Ganjam

Aska: Notorious criminal Kalu Biswal sustained injuries in an encounter with police after he fired at the cops near Charimile Square in Aska area of Odisha’s Ganjam district early this morning.

According to reports, Kalu was on his way to Balipadar on a motorcycle, which lacked a number plate. Acting on a tip-off about his movement, a team of Aska police chased him.

Realising the presence of cops, he opened fire four rounds of bullets at them on Aska-Balipadar main road near Charimile Square. The criminal sustained bullet injuries on his right leg during retaliation by police, following which he fell down from the two-wheeler.

He has been admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur in the district for treatment. A mouser, 3 rounds of bullets and the motorcycle have been seized from his possession.

Kalu had recently walked out of jail after serving five years of imprisonment in a murder case. He then allegedly got involved in extortion and other criminal activities in Aska area. He is also accused in the murder of BJD leader Sanyasi Bisoi, police sources said, adding that over 10 cases are pending against him at various police stations.
