Kendrapada, Jan 31:
It may sound wacky, but it’s true. A member of a cricket tournament organising committee having affiliation to a regional party shaved his head after losing a bet as a leader failed to turn up to the venue in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
A four-day cricket tournament organised by Dosti Cricket Committee began from Jan 24 at Dobandha Eidgah Bazar under Kendrapada block.
The tourney was organised between the members having affiliation to Congress and Biju Janata Dal.
The organisers had invited leaders from both the parties to lift the morale of the players. From Congress party, senior leader and former legislator Ganeswar Behera was invited whereas local MLA Kishore Chandra Tarai was invited by the BJD workers.
Though the organisers had invited their leaders to participate in the event, the teams had put a condition that the senior most member from a team would shave his head if its guest fails to turn up to the venue.
The invited guest Ganeswar Behera kept his commitment and appeared at the ground during the match on one of the days. The BJD legislator had promised to grace the occasion on the closing day of the tournament on Jan 27. However, Tarai had to reschedule his visit to Jan 29 in the last minute due to other commitments.
Accordingly, the organisers shifted the closing ceremony to Friday hoping Tarai to attend the event as chief guest. To everyone’s surprise, Tarai failed to make it to the venue on the mutually agreeable date following which the organising committee secretary, Mohsin Khan, took the onus and shaved his head in the middle of the ground after losing the bet.
