Bargarh, Dec 3:
The mortal remains of Padmalochan Majhi (30), a CRPF jawan of Odisha’s Bargarh district, who was killed in a Maoist attack inside Chintagufa forest of Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Monday, were consigned to flames with full state honour today.
The body of Majhi, which arrived here last night from Raipur, was given a guard of honour at the Reserve Police Line this morning after which it was taken to his native village Bardol on the outskirts of Bargarh town this morning for cremation.
A student of Rana Pratap High School at Bargarh, Majhi joined the CRPF in 2001 and was posted as havaldar of the 223 (A) company of the para-military force.
A bachelor, Majhi is survived by his mother, three sisters and a younger brother Gajendra, who is now working as a home guard in Bargarh.
This was Majhi’s third combing operation. The incident had taken place when Majhi along with other CRPF jawans was returning to the base camp through the Chintagufa forest when the left wing ultras suddenly attacked them.
A pall of gloom has descended the Bardol village following Majhi’s death.
