The Cuttack special chit fund court today allowed the Odisha Crime Branch to take ponzi firm Oscar Group chairman Prabhas Rout and director of the company Tara Prasad Hota on remand of five and three days, respectively.


Hota, director of the company’s Surat office, was arrested along with two other directors of the firm– Kirti Bastia and Abani Patnaik– on Tuesday. The trio was produced in the court today and the investigating agency prayed for a 3-day remand of Hota to which the court agreed.

On the other hand, five-day remand period of Oscar Group chairman Prabhas Rout came to an end today. The Crime Branch sought a fresh five-day remand of Rout for further interrogation to which the court nodded.

On Tuesday, Rout was interrogated by Crime Branch Special DG BK Sharma in the presence of Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra. Sources said, the investigators have unearthed a bank account in Odisha capital having over Rs 1 crore deposits. This apart, the sleuths have found immovable property at five places in Gujarat.

Notably, Rout is accused of defrauding customers to the tune of Rs 230 crore in Odisha, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
