Cotton bales worth around Rs 3 crore were reduced to ashes in a major fire that broke out in a mill in Odisha’s Bolganir district late yesterday night.
A major fire engulfed the stocks stashed in Samaleswari Cotton Mill located at Chacherabenga under Belapada area here. According to a rough estimate, property worth Rs 3 crore was destroyed in the ferocious fire.
According to sources, fire emanated from the stock of cotton kept in the warehouse. Soon, the fire spread reducing around 220 tonnes of cotton to ashes.
Though fire engines from Belapada were pressed into service, irreparable damage was already done by the time the fire was put off and situation was brought under control.
The reason behind the fire mishap is yet to be ascertained.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
