Sambalpur, Sep 8:
The sudden disappearance of four Class X girls of Lady Lewis Girls’ High School in Odisha’s Sambalpur town since last Saturday has left the local people worried over the safety of girls in the city.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the girls have gone outside the state. Meanwhile, two teams of police personnel have been despatched to neighbouring states to rescue them.
The girls were not regularly attending classes in the school, school sources said.
“Guardians of Farhat Bano, Khusnuma Parveen, Shaheen Parveen and Suraiya Parveen called up on the school number to enquire about their wards. They also came to the school to physically verify the attendance register. They saw the absent marks put on the attendance roll. Their guardians said that their children had told them that they are going to school. But, they haven’t come to the school,” headmistress-in-charge Sarojbala Patnaik said.
A police complaint has been filed by the guardians of the students after they did not return home on Saturday last.
“After getting complaints, an abduction case has been registered with the town police station. The case is under investigation. The town police and the district police are taking all steps to rescue the girls and hand them over to their parents,” Additional SP of Sambalpur Sushil Kumar Panigrahi said.
