Paralakhemundi, Sep 10:

Security forces today exchanged fire with Maoists on the Ganjam-Gajapati border in Odisha, police sources said.

The exchange of fire between security personnel and Maoists took place in the Barimunda forested area under Tarasingh police limits, informed Satyajit Nayak, SP Gajapati.

Though the red rebels managed to escape, security personnel have seized one SLR rifle, 30 cartridges and two magazines from their deserted camp in the forest, Nayak said.

Sources said the Maoists belonged to the Nikhil faction of the outlawed CPI (Maoist). Both sides have sustained injuries in the exchange of fire, they said.

More details are awaited.
