Rayagada, May 30:
Though the authorities on Wednesday shifted the grievously injured woman, who was allegdly pushed off a running train by her husband, to VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for better treatment, Odisha police are finding the case a tough nut to crack with the elusive husband still out of their clutches.
The woman’s husband, the alleged perpetrator of the crime, is absconding since he threw his wife off a moving Rourkela-bound train near Rauli railway station on this Tuesday.
The woman gave birth to a stillborn child on the railway track and was rescued by Government Railway Police (GRP) and rushed to the Rayagada government hospital where she was undergoing treatment.
After the woman’s parents–Basia Kerketa and Meena Kerketa—reached Rayagada hospital, their daughter narrated her ordeal to them.
Her parents decided to shift her to VIMSAR as they belong to Sundergarh and it would be convenient for them to look after her. Following this, she was shifted to Burla on Wednesday.
Prior to that, police posed some pertinent questions to the Kerketas.
Police were surprised to know that the parents of the woman haven’t seen their son-in-law.
“She had left home about one-and-half years back and we had no inkling about her whereabouts till police informed us about the mishap. We have never seen Suraj and we don’t have any relatives in Koraput either. Police told us that he pushed my daughter out of a moving train. So we have come here,” the victim’s father Basia said.
Basia has five daughters and he works as a mason to earn his living. Sarojini is his second daughter.
On further questioning, Basia, a mason, revealed that his daughter’s name is Sanjulata and not Sarojini.
Adding more twist to the story, the injured woman said her husband’s name is Suraj Sahu not Saroj Kerketa.
As per reports, the woman had eloped with Suraj and the duo had left for Nagpur after marriage. After spending some months there, they had come to Suraj’s uncle’s place in Koraput recently. The incident happened while returning from his relative’s place.
Meanwhile, police have found nobody staying at the house the address of which was given to them by Sarojini.
Two teams of Tikiri police had left for Rourkela and Sundergarh in search of Suraj Kerketa alias Saroj Sahu. However, the investigating officers are groping in the dark as no definite clue has come their way until now.
