Narayanpatna ( Koraput), Jan 7 :
Maoists killed a local trader and caused grievous injuries to another in Balipeta village near Narayanpatna in Koraput district late on Monday night, police sources said.
Reports said, a group of armed Maoists invaded Balipeta village at night and dragged out two petty traders, Sarat Subuddhi and Upendra Pandu from their homes. They then tied their hands and took them to a mango orchard on the outskirts of the village and slit their throats.
The Maoists then left the spot assuming that both were dead.
But while Subudhhi bled to death on the spot, Pandu who sustained serious injuries in his neck and throat was alive when local people spotted him.
Pandu was rushed to the local hospital and later shifted to admitted to the hospital here.
However, in the letter that the Maoists left behind at the spot says both Subuddhi and Pandu were involved in selling liquor and were oppressors of the tribal people. The attackers identified themselves as members of the Srikakulam-Koraput division of CPI-Maoist led by Daya.
When contacted the SDPO Laxmipur Jalandhar Jali said he had information that Subuddhi, one of the two persons attacked by the Maoists at Balipeta, had died.
