Cuttack: Several Congress workers allegedly ransacked Purighat police station in Odisha’s Cuttack city today.
The party workers led by Congress Cuttack district president Mohammed Moquim damaged properties on the police station premises and misbehaved with a police official.
The workers later staged road blockade in front of the police station by burning tyres. Policemen have been deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
They were protesting detention of a Congress worker after a group of party workers barged into the office of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) during observance of bandh yesterday.
“Mohammed Moquim had told an official of the police station over telephone to release a detained Congress worker. The detainee was not released following which Congress workers ransacked the police station. We are taking the matter seriously and strong action will be taken in this regard,” said Cuttack DCP Cuttack DCP Akhileshwar Singh.
