Baleswar, Dec 29:
The Baleswar and Keonjhar district units of the Congress are in a shambles with the resignation of senior leaders and workers.
While four senior leaders, including two vice presidents of the Baleswar District Congress, had tendered their resignation on Friday, several other members of the party, including former vice chairman of Baleswar Municipality Manoj Kumar Rout and president of District Minorities Cell Inteqab Ali Khan, resigned on Saturday. This apart, several youth and student leaders also resigned from the primary membership of the party.
Talking to OST, these leaders and party workers expressed resentment over the growing intra-party feud and the leadership of Baleswar MP and Union minister Srikant Jena.
Speculation is rife that most of these Congress leaders could join the ruling party.
The party also received a jolt in Keonjhar district as over 1500 workers of Champua assembly constituency joined the Biju Janata Dal on Saturday.
Expressing resentment against the weak leadership of Sanatan Mahakud, the irate party workers, led by Youth Congress leader Bobi Das, took out a massive rally and assembled at the local guest house.
From there, they went on a motorcycle rally with the BJD district vice president Kusa Apat and formally announced their joining with the BJD at a meeting later.
Prior to this, other senior Congress leaders of the district, including the president of Keonjhar Zilla Krushak Congress Sheikh Mochin, general secretary of Kishan Khet Mazdoor Congress Laxmidhar Patnaik and other block Congress presidents, have also resigned from their post in protest against poor party state leadership and the faulty party organization of AICC leader and in-charge of Odisha party affairs BK Hariprasad
