Congress workers alleging large-scale irregularities in allotment of houses to beneficiaries under Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) in the Odisha capital, today gheraoed the office of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Protestors alleged that while under RAY programme houses were allotted in each ward; five family members of BMC deputy mayor K Shanti have been allotted houses in Ward no. 56 of BMC as beneficiaries under the scheme.
Protesting against the erroneous selection of beneficiaries Congress workers staged a demonstration demanding the resignation of deputy mayor K Shanti.
“Deputy mayor K Shanti has usurped 11 houses in the names of her family members and friends under the scheme. We demand allotments to eligible beneficiaries as per the list of beneficiaries prepared earlier. We demand CBI probe in the matter and dismissal of the deputy mayor and others who are involved in the scam,” said senior Congress leader Suresh Routray.
“We demand deputy mayor K Shanti’s resignation. She has allotted houses to her relatives. We strongly protest this. We demand fresh enumeration to identify eligible beneficiaries and allotment of houses to them,” demanded Manoranjan Das Bhubaneswar district president of Congress.
