Bhubaneswar, Nov 13:

The state Congress today moved the state election commission (SEC) seeking action against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for violating the model code of conduct in force for the urban local bodies (ULBs) election in western Odisha.

Notably, Patnaik had yesterday rolled out the health insurance scheme Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana (BKKY) for farmers at Pallahara in Angul district.

“The Chief Minister has a habit of flouting laws, including the model code of conduct. So, we formally lodged a complaint before the SEC to take action against the Chief Minister for rolling out the insurance scheme while the model code of conduct is in force,” said senior Congress leader Sivananda Ray.

He said though the other parts of the state, except western Odisha, would not go for polls, it will influence the voters while casting their votes during elections.

Election for 20 ULBs in western Odisha will be held on November 22.
