Bhubaneswar, Mar 19:
The Opposition Congress today once again raised the alleged Assistant Executive Engineers (AEE) recruitment scam in the Odisha Assembly and demanded an impartial probe into the matter.
During the Zero Hour, Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly Narasingha Mishra raised the alleged irregularities in the appointment of Assistant Executive Engineers (AEE).
“Despite stay by Odisha Administrative Tribunal (OAT), chief minister has distributed appointment letters which is contempt of the tribunal. An impartial probe should be ordered into it and the chief minister should be made a party to it,” Narasingha Mishra demanded.
However, government chief whip Ananta Das denied the allegations.
The tribunal hasn’t passed any such order in the appointment of AAEs. So the question of contempt of court doesn’t arise, Ananta Das said.
On the other hand, Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that the ruling party has given appointment to the kin of the party leaders in the AEE recruitment. Further, it demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had handed over appointment letters to as many as 230 candidates for recruitment as AEEs on March 2.
The matter was challenged in the Odisha Administrative Tribunal following which it directed the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) on October last year not to publish the final result of the AEE recruitment examination without its permission.
Though OPSC sought permission from the tribunal on January 13 to publish the results, it published the results without getting its nod, reports said.
