“We are getting more and more complaints against them. The mother-daughter duo had shoplifted from various market complexes from Satya Nagar, Bapuji Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Unit-1, Unit-2 market building etc. In some cases, the owners have not reported the incident as the amount of goods stolen was not high. We still want to get them on remand to enquire further on the motive behind these thefts, the locations of the theft and the durations since they have been carrying out such act,” said DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.

After Manisha Boutique, Satya Nagar Subham market complex based Cashfarma medicine store and Kharavela Nagar based Sports Emporium have brought shoplifting allegations against them and lodged an FIRs in Kharavela Nagar police station. The ship-owners have submitted CCTV footage of the act as evidence.

Cashfarma owner Narendra Parida explained the tricks used by the duo to steal from shops.

“Both came to my shop at about 7 PM on July 7. The mother wanted a tetanus injection and my staff was helping her.  The dentist daughter in the meanwhile kept stuffing her bag with antibiotics, syrups and other medicines worth Rs 3000. It was a well-planned and well-coordinated effort as the mother kept covering her while she was at the job. I got to know about it only after I saw the CCTV footage,” said  Parida.

It may be noted that the dentist daughter and mother duo, identified as Kalyani Prusty (28) and Kusuma Prusty (50) were arrested on Wednesday based on complaints filed by owner of Manisha Boutique at Shaheed Nagar police station.

During a raid at their residence, plot No 44/346 of Khandagiri, the police seized 28 sarees, 165 vanity bags, 15 cloth pieces, 13 dresses, 35 bras, 16 panties and 15 mobile flip covers together worth about Rs 2 lakh along with a motor cycle and a mobile phone.
