Community toilets soon in Odisha capital


Bhubaneswar: In a bid to expedite Swachh Bharat campaign and make Odisha capital as an open defecation free city, community toilets will soon be introduced to smart city people.

An MoU has been signed on Thursday here between Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Ward Sanitation Committee for maintenance of the community toilets, already constructed in the city.

The community toilets will be executed in group partnership.

As per the report, total 26 community toilets will be constructed with financial support of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the city, out of which construction of 17 toilets has already been completed and remaining nine will be constructed soon.

The committees have been set up on basis of the collective decision made by the locals residing in the places where the community toilets are constructed. The committees will be responsible for maintenance of the toilets and fee collection. The committee will be comprised of president, secretary and treasurer. The panels will be in charge of the articles and items placed in the toilets owned by the BMC.

As per the decision by the Ward sanitation committee, the toilet fee will be Rs 3 onwards. A bank account will be opened in name of the committee and the account will be managed by the treasurer and another member.
