The Higher Education department of Odisha government today directed authorities in all colleges of six districts and the Berhampur university in Ganjam district to suspend classes on October 11 and 13 in view of the impending cyclonic storm Hudhud, which is likely to hit the coast on October 12.
The department has asked both government and non-government colleges in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts to suspend classes for the two days in the interest of the safety and security of the students.
However, the department has asked all staff of these colleges and the lone university to remain in their respective institutions on these two days.
The department has sought active participation of students’ wings such as NSS, NCC, YRC and Rovers & Rangers in the relief operation and evacuation of people to safe places.
Meanwhile, the ST &SC Welfare department has also asked all schools managed by it in these six districts to shut down on these two days.
