Several parts of Odisha shivered under piercing cold wave conditions as mercury plummeted below 10 degree Celsius at seven places in the state on Saturday. Night temperature dropped by at least 6.5 degree Celsius in a span of 24 hours, the regional weather office said.
The cold wave conditions will prevail in a few pockets till December 29, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin said.
The mercury dropped by a few notches with Daringbadi and Sundargarh recording the lowest in the state at 6.5 degree Celsius each. The other places which recorded sub 10 degree Celsius yesterday are: Koraput (7.6), Keonjhar (8.2), Jharsuguda (8.3), Titlagarh (9.5) and Hirakud (9.8).
Besides, temperature also came down sharply in the coastal areas where temperature hovered between 10 and 12 degrees in Baripada (10.2), Sambalpur (10.5), Baleswar (10.6), Angul (10.6), Phulbani (11), Bhawanipatna (11.2), Dhenkanal (11.4), and Chandbali (11.5).
Capital city—Bhubaneswar– recorded minimum temperature of 14.8 degree Celsius.
“The weather will be dry from Sunday and cold wave conditions will prevail till Tuesday,” said director of IMD, Bhubaneswar, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu.
