Coal Scam: Delhi court serves summon to Odisha BJP MLA

A Special Court here has summoned BJP MLA from Rourkela in the Odisha Assembly Dilip Ray, who was Union Minister of State for Coal in 1999 in the NDA government, as an accused along with five others in connection with a coal block allocation case.


The case pertains to alleged irregularities in allocation of Brahmadiha coal block in Girdih in Jharkhand to Castron Technologies Ltd in 1999.

The Special Court has also summoned Pradip Kumar Banerjee the then additional secretary in Ministry of Coal (MoC), Nitya Nand Gautam the then advisor (projects) in MoC, Castron Technologies Ltd, its director Mahendra Kumar Agarwalla and Castron Mining as accused in the case.

Ray is the first minister of the NDA government to be summoned as an accused in a coal scam case.

The court has directed them to appear before it on February 26.

Taking cognizance of CBI’s chargesheet filed against them, the court found enough prima facie evidence against them and served summons on them.
