Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday asked the concerned departments to complete the ongoing reconstruction work in the cyclone-hit areas of the state as early as possible.
Presiding over a high level review meeting at the State Secretariat here, Patnaik directed the Water Resources and Energy departments to complete the repair work of defunct lift irrigation ( LI ) points by January 15 to enable the farmers to take up Rabi cultivation.
Taking note of the extensive damage caused to Primary and Secondary school buildings by cyclone Phailin in Ganjam district, the chief minister asked the School and Mass Education department to complete the reconstruction of these schools before the commencement of the next academic session i.e. March, 2014.
In view of the massive loss to horticulture, he stressed on large-scale plantation of fruit-bearing and vegetable saplings as well as early cultivation of sugarcane.
To revive cashew plantations in Ganjam district which were extensively damaged during the cyclone, it was decided that Soil Conservation and the Horticulture departments would jointly take up the plantation work by utilising the funds from MGNREGS.
The chief minister also directed the concerned departments to expedite disbursement of house damage assistance among the affected people, financial assistance to affected fishermen towards the damage of boats and fishing nets, assessment of crop loss and disbursement of agri loan among the affected farmers.
