CM demands Central Institute of Classical Odia in Odisha

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today demanded establishment of a Central Institute of Classical Odia in the state.

“To promote further research and development of this Classical Language, I propose that a “Central Institute of Classical Odia” (Centre of Excellence for studies in Classical Languages) be established by the Government of India at Bhubaneswar”, wrote Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in a letter addressed to Union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Smriti Irani.

Patnaik suggested starting two professional Chairs in the Central University of Odisha, Koraput, from this academic year to be followed by Chairs in other Central Universities.

In his letter, the Chief Minister also proposed institution of two major international awards by the Government of India as per existing provisions to be given to scholars of eminence in the Odia classical language.

“The state government is committed to extend all necessary support in this regard,” Patnaik said adding the Centre’s declaration of classical tag to Odia language has been highly appreciated by litterateurs, linguistics and people of the state at large.
