New Delhi, Dec 17:
The 35th edition of the Champions Trophy men’s hockey tournament would be held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from December 13-21 next year.
Announcing this at a press briefing here on Monday, Narinder Batra, general secretary of Hockey India (HI), said that the tournament would be jointly organized by the Hockey India and the Odisha government.
The Stadium would be ready to host international hockey matches by June next year, he said. Of the two astro-turfs, one has already been laid while the Odisha government had assured HI that the other would be ready by June next year, he said.
He also informed that the Federation of International Hockey (FIH) has endorsed Bhubaneswar as the venue for the tournament.
A FIH delegation, which had visited the Kalinga stadium earlier this year, was impressed with the infrastructure facilities.
Batra hoped that considering the growing popularity of the game in Odisha, the tournament would draw huge crowds unlike previous events at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi.
