Bhubaneswar, Aug 12:

A city-based builder and Managing Director of Kalinga Putra Builders, Krushna Chandra Nayak was shot dead by three unidentified assailants in IRC village under Nayapalli police station here around 10 am this morning.

Nayak was going from his office in N 1 area to his residence in N 3 area on a bike when the incident took place.

Sabyascahi Jena, a security officer in Kalinga Putra Security Services (KPSS) who was with Nayak at the time of the attack, said three persons wearing helmets came on a blue and black bike from behind and pushed Nayak, who was riding pillion, off the bike before pumping bullets into him as soon as he fell to the ground.

Nayak was rushed to the Apollo Hospital in a critical state, but it was too late. He sustained three bullet injuries – one on the left lower abdomen and two on the right abdomen, hospital sources said.

DCP Nitinjit Singh said all possible angles were being investigated. ‘”It could be the fall-out of an old enmity or a land dispute. We are not ruling out any possibility. The truth will emerge after investigations,” he said.

Dhananjay Nayak alias Chiku, son of the deceased, admitted that his father had a running dispute with a land broker Subrat Das, who had taken an advance of Rs 20 lakh from his father for a piece of land in the N4 area. But Das had later cancelled the power of attorney in our company’s name with the help of the land owner and refused to pay back the advance.

“Das and his associate Tarini had threatened our office staff 20 days ago saying they had hired supari killers from Bihar to bump off my father,” Dhananjay said.
