A Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) member hailing from Rourkela today met a watery grave as he drowned in the sea in Odisha’s Puri while taking bath.


According to reports, the deceased identified as Trinath Patnaik from Rourkela Sector-6 area had come to the pilgrim town to attend the five-day national conference which began yesterday here.

Patnaik along with his five other associates had gone to the sea near Digabareni Khunti (weather pole) to take bath this morning. However, he was swept away by a strong tidal wave.

He resurfaced above the waters after for around five minutes and was pulled back to the coast. Though he was in an unconscious state, he was breathing and alive.

He was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. However, the doctors declared him brought dead.
