Veteran Ollywood star Bijay Mohanty today joined the Congress party at the party office here in the presence of PCC president Jaydev Jena and Rajya Sabha MP Ranjib Biswal.
Welcoming him into the Congress, Jena’s said his joining will boost the party’s prospects in the coming elections.
“Even though I was not interested in politics, I am inspired by the simplicity and ideology of Rahul Gandhi,” Mohanty said on the occasion.
Asked if he would contest the elections, the veteran film star said; “Why not? If I am given a ticket, I would certainly contest the election.
Mohanty is tipped to be the Congress candidate from the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency, party sources said.
Sritam Das, Pinky join BJP
Well-known Odia film actors Sritam Das and Pinky Pradhan joined BJP on Wednesday.
It is not clear if the party would field them as candidates in the coming polls or use them as star campaigners.
Both the actors said they joined BJP because they were ‘greatly impressed’ by the vision and personality of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
