Bhubaneswar, Oct 2:
The justice R K Patra commission investigating the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha , has extended the deadline for receipt of complaints for the third time, to October 31, official sources said on Wednesday.
Initially August 31 was the last date for filing complaints. Subsequently, the Commission extended the deadline to September 30 and now to October 31.
Sources said , the Commission this time will only receive complaints sent through couriers and post. No investors would be allowed this time to submit their complaint at the Commission office in Bhubaneswar.
Since more and more complaints were coming in and the number had reached a whopping one and half lakh on September 30, it was decided to extend the deadline further to October 31 to provide an opportunity to those who have been duped in the scam to submit their petitions, sources said.
According to sources in the Commission as many as eight lakh complaints have been received so far.
It is this that has fueled suspicion that most of these complaints could be fake.
FAKE COMPLAINTS ?
” Most of these are fake complaints, filed under various fictitious names by vested interest groups who want to make sure the Commission takes at least 5 years to scan the petitions and never come to any definite conclusions”, said an insider who did not wish to be named.
“If there are actually 8 lakh depositors in the state who have been duped, we would have seen massive public protests across the state. But why has that not happened,” quipped the insider.
