Bhubaneswar, Dec 9:
The empowered committee of the Union Rural Development ministry has recommended clearance of another set of proposals in the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) and Phailin-affected districts of Odisha.
In a letter to chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday, Union Rural Development minister Jairam Ramesh said that his ministry would clear 704 road projects covering 2400 km at a cost of Rs 1196 crore under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
“Though the state government had asked for clearance of about 2983 km, the ministry, considering the limitations of the execution capacity of the state, has given priority to IPA and Phailin-hit districts”, the Union minister pointed out.
He, however, assured that the state can submit a proposal for the remaining 574 km of roads by January-end next year.
Ramesh also informed that while his ministry had sanctioned Rs 2445.75 crore for construction of 5189 km of PMGSY roads during 2012-13, it has already sanctioned Rs 1067 crore for construction of 1184 km of PMGSY roads.
After this sanction, about 5300 habitations still remain to be connected.
Stating that the Empowered Committee had also considered engagements of CPSUs like Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) in the IAP districts of the state, Ramesh said the Committee has asked the state government to send agency-wise and district-wise proposed allocation of works for the consideration of the ministry.
