The Centre has given a thumbs-up to Basantpur in Burla as the location for the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Sambalpur, informed Sanjay Dasburma, Odisha Minister of Employment, Technical Education and Training (ETET) here today.
For the temporary campus of IIM Sambalpur, the Centre has given its nod to two sites – Silicon Institute and Sambalpur University Institute of IT (SUIIT) campus, he said.
“Preparation of a draft MoU for operationalizing the IIM is underway by the Centre. The state government is extending its fullest cooperation in this regard,” said Dasburma.
Notably, the state government had identified land in Rengali, Dhankauda and Neeldungri blocks for the permanent campus of IIM. It had also selected Government Polytechnic, Rengali, Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT), Burla, and Silicon Institute of Technology, Sason, for temporary campus.
A four-member central team had come to Sambalpur on a two-day visit on June 20 and had inspected the proposed permanent and temporary campuses in Sambalpur. They had expressed their satisfaction over the sites.
