Centre approves upgradation of two Odisha govt medical colleges

Bhubaneswar, July 11:

The Union government has approved upgradation and modernisation of the MKCG medical college in Berhampur and VSS medical college in Burla in Odisha in the third phase of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakshya Yojana (PMSSY).

medical doctors A total of of 39 existing Government medical colleges, including the two in Odisha, will be upgraded at an approved cost of Rs.150 crore per institute. While the Centre will bear Rs 120 crore, the state’s share will be Rs 30 crore.

The information was given by Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in the Parliament today.

Depending upon the individual institution’s requirement and gap analysis, the upgradation may cover construction of Trauma Centre and Super Specialty Block as Centre of Excellence on areas like Oncology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Cardiology, CTVS, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery, ENT, Orthopaedics and Burns & Plastics etc. and procurement and installation of medical equipment for existing as well as new facilities.

The Minister also informed that plans are afoot to upgrade some district headquarters hospitals in Odisha as medical colleges and referral hospitals. Baleswar, Puri, Koraput, Baripada and Bolangir district hospitals will be upgraded, said the Minister.
