Bhubaneswar, Nov 1:
The Inter Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) was all praise for the state government for its handling of cyclone Phailin and the subsequent floods while assuring to do the best it can for the disaster struck state.
“We will be submitting our report very soon and will do the best we can” said IMCT leader Rashmi Goel, joint secretary, Union ministry of Home Affairs to newsmen Thursday while winding up the team’s four day ‘guided tour’ of the calamity hit areas of the state.
“None from the affected people in the villages we visited complained of not receiving relief. The arrangement made by the state government was good”, she said.
Goel said the team had received supplementary memorandum from the state government seeking Rs 1590 crore Central assistance towards damage caused by the second phase flood that hit the state’s 13 districts from October 21 to 26.
Goel said many lives had been saved due the state government’s evacuation drive ahead of the cyclone’s landfall near Gopalpur on October 12. She added the state government has earned praise both national and international for proper handling of the calamity.
The team had a meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other state government officials before briefing the media.
