Cease-work stir at Athagarh hosp in Odisha over attack on doctor

Athagarh, Oct 10:
Physicians of the Athagarh Sub-divisional hospital today staged a cease-work strike protesting the attack on a doctor by two youths during the wee hours on Monday.
According to reports, two youths of the area allegedly thrashed doctor Chandan Gadnayak at the hospital.
“Two youths came to the hospital in between 4.30-5 AM and asked me to open the emergency room saying that a patient is on the way to the medical. They enquired about the presence of hospital staff to which I replied that the staff will come once the patient arrives here. They became furious and started thrashing me. They fled the spot soon after the incident. I have lodged an FIR at the Athagarh police station in this regard,” said Gadnayak.
Health service at the hospital was disrupted after the strike, sources said. The agitating doctors have demanded arrest of the accused. They have decided to continue the cease-work stir till the duo’s arrest, sources added.
Police have started investigation into the incident.
