Bhubaneswar, Jan 4:
The Chilika Development Authority (CDA), in collaboration with Wetlands International South Asia (WISA) and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) will organise a two-day workshop beginning from January 6 at Hotel Mayfair Lagoon here, a CDA official said today.
The workshop, to be inaugurated by Forest and Environment minister Bijayshree Routray, would focus on the challenges and opportunities for better wetland governance and mainstreaming at multiple levels with a river basin approach and also highlight case studies of progressive governance mechanisms for wetlands from the South Asian region, the official added.
The objective of the workshop is to bring a diversity of stakeholders to one platform and discuss and exchange ideas around the issues of wetland governance within the broader context of water governance.
More than 50 wetland managers from South Asian countries and managers from Ramsar sites of India from different states, representatives from Ministry of Forest and Environment (MoEF), Wetlands International, and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) would participate in the workshop.
The institutional structure of CDA, good governance in management of the wetland and policy support for successful management of Chilika lake would be showcased during the workshop, the CDA official told OST.
