Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, Sept 7:
The CBI, which is probing the mega chit fund scam in Odisha, has drawn up a list of officers posted at various places in the country for the impending raids in connection with the fraudulent dealings of the Seashore group of companies.
The officers listed to conduct the raids are to be drawn from the Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru offices of the CBI, sources in the investigating agency said. The services of two senior software professionals, a senior Income Tax official and a Revenue official have also been requisitioned to assist the team, the sources said.
The CBI SP, Bhubaneswar, who is currently in the national capital for consultations with the top brass of the agency, is reported to have impressed upon his bosses the need to have a large team of officials ready to conduct the raids.
He is said to have argued in favour of a large team of officers drawn from various locations across the country on two grounds. First, the investigations so far have thrown up conclusive evidence of the involvement of top politicians and bureaucrats in facilitating the fraudulent operations of Seashore.
Secondly, the operations of the company were spread over several places outside Odisha like Mumbai, Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata and New Delhi, requiring the involvement of more officials in the raid.
According to sources in the CBI, the agency has prepared a blueprint for simultaneous raids on branches of the company at 75 places spread over 18 districts of the state.
On the basis of the documents handed over by the state crime branch, the CBI has come to the conclusion that the tainted company swindled at least Rs 1, 500 crores from about 1.5 lakh investors in the state.
Company promoter Prashant Dash, who was arrested from Mumbai on June 20 last year, is currently in jail.
