Bhubaneswar, Sept 19:
The CBI raided a steel plant of Maheswari Ispat Pvt Ltd (MIPL) near Athgarh in Odisha’s Cuttack district this morning.
However, the reason behind the raid was not yet known immediately, reports said.
It may be mentioned that the Odisha government had attached MIPL properties worth Rs 3.17 crore under Odisha Public Demand Recovery (OPDR) Act in May last year.
The 0.25 MTPA capacity steel plant, which had set up two 12 MW Captive Power Plant (CPP) inside its campus, had not paid the requisite electricity duty to the state government ever since the CPP began generating power in 2010.
The Rs 210 crore steel plant, located at Rampei village under Khuntuni police station, was commissioned in 2009.
However, production in the plant stopped since 2012 as the state government failed to provide the requisite raw material like coal and iron ore as per the MoU signed in November 2004.
