Searches are being conducted by CBI at 20 places including Khordha, Baleswar, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Nayagarh districts belonging to GRIL and its sister concerns. Besides, searches were also being conducted in locations outside Odisha including New Delhi and Dehradun, sources in the CBI said.

The sleuths raided the offices and residences of the GRIL directors–Mir Sahiruddin, Mir Tahiruddin, Ayub Shah and Gopal Chandra Patra, CBI sources from New Delhi said.

On October 13 last year, Chhattisgarh police had arrested the GRIL director Ayub Shah from Ajmer in Rajasthan.

Shah was then nabbed while he was planning to flee to Nigeria via Bangladesh. However, acting on a tip-off, a special investigation team from Chhattisgarh nabbed him at Ajmer while he was on his way to Kolkata.

At least 13 cases were registered against the managing director and directors of GRIL in different police stations in Odisha for allegedly duping depositors of crores of rupees and five cases registered in Chhattisgarh.

GRIL had also swindled over Rs 500 crore from around 1.5 lakh customers in Odisha. Besides, the company had collected over Rs 200 crore from the people in Chhattisgarh.

GRIL Managing director Mir Sahiruddin and two other directors Khalik Saha and Mir Tahiruddin are also wanted in chit fund cases.

It may be mentioned that the trio had started their operations in Odisha in 2004 but the state government sealed their offices in 2013 following which it defaulted on payments to its investors. When people gheraoed the offices for liquidation of their deposits, they directors went into hiding.
