Bhubaneswar, Oct 4:
Union Tribal Affairs minister Jual Oram today said the CBI, which is inquiring into the role of politicians in the chit fund scam in Odisha, may call senior BJD leader and Excise minister Dr Damodar Rout to be an approver (Raj Sakshi) to help reveal the links of OJM chief and former BJD leader Pyari Mohan Mohapatra with the Seashore Group, the largest home grown chit fund company.
“I am sure the CBI has taken note of Dama Babu’s remarks on Mohapatra’s role in the chit fund scam. The investigating agency may call the minister to be the Raj Sakshi to reveal the truth about the scam,” Oram told media persons here.
He said the CBI is probing the role of the politicians in the multi-thousand crore scam and would nab the actual culprits after unraveling the truth.
On Thursday, Dr Rout had told a local news channel that the chit fund business of the Seashore company had flourished in Odisha because of the patronage it had received from the state government. He had also accused Pyarimohan Mohapatra of facilitating the Ponzi firm’s growth by exerting his influence over the state bureaucracy.
On his part, Mohapatra put up a brave front and said he was ready to depose before CBI.
“I welcome the CBI inquiry into the chit fund scam. I am ready to depose before it. If somebody goes and meets the agency to inquire about my role, I have no problems with that. There are certain procedures to be followed. If CBI summons me, I will depose before it,” said the expelled BJD leader.
