Bhubaneswar, Jun 11:
CBI joint director Rajiv Singh and DIG, SIT S Bagchi returned to Kolkata this evening after a short visit here to take stock of the progress of the ongoing investigation into the Odisha chit fund scam.
Singh and Bagchi, who arrived here in the afternoon, took the 7.25 pm flight back to Kolkata.
After arriving here at about 3.30 pm, the two senior officers went into a huddle with CBI Officers. Among those present at this closed oor meeting were CBI SP Rajiv Ranjan, who also holds additional charge of SP, CBI SIT and the Investigating Officers (IOs) probing various cases related to the scam.
“The status of investigation into various cases were reviewed and the next course of action chalked out,” said an IO in charge of one of the many cases being probed by the central agency after the meeting.
The issue of filing the charge sheet against Zodiac, one of the 44 chit fund companies being probed by the CBI, also figured in the deliberations, he said.
As the investigation into the chit fund scam in the state appears to have slowed down considerably in the recent past, sources in the CBI said the meeting discussed revving it up again to restore the credibility of the probe.
The visit of the CBI honchos is also being linked to the massive rally held by thousands of duped chit fund investors from all over the state under the banner of ‘Arthika Sansthamanankadwara Kshyatigrastanka Milita Mancha’ (ASKMM) yesterday.
Alleging that the probe had slowed down as a result of a political deal entered into by the incumbent governments, Manch leaders had demanded that the culprits be pursued and prosecuted relentlessly.
