Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, Mar 20:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested the chairman-cum-managing director of public sector enterprise Engineering Projects India Limited (EPIL), its two executive directors and four others in a case pertaining to alleged bribery of Rs 10 lakh for awarding contract of an Odisha project.

The sleuths arrested EPIL MD SPS Bakshi, Executive Director (Delhi Region) of EPIL, Harcharan Pal and its Executive Director (Mumbai Region) Kapil Tara and four others.

“It is alleged that the officials sought bribe from a private firm from Raipur for favouring the company in the award of the contract for the construction of Mega Urban Educational Complex at Pallur Hills, Kainisi in Odisha’s Ganjam district,” CBI sources said.

The official further added that the CMD in connivance with others delegated his staff to collect Rs 10 lakh as a part payment of the total agreed amount of gratification from one hawala operator based at Chandni Chowk in New Delhi. However, the staff was intercepted by CBI while allegedly receiving the bribe amount.

Notably, simultaneous searches were conducted at eight locations in Delhi, Mumbai and Raipur today.
