Sambalpur, Feb 21:

A 7-member team of the state Crime Branch police led by the superintendent of police Rabindranath Mohanty today began investigation into the recent incidents of poaching of three tuskers in Sambalpur and Bamra forest range.

The Crime Branch has registered a case under section 429, 379, 120(b) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), section25/27 under the Arms Act and section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act-1972.

The Crime Branch sleuths are investigating into the possible involvement of inter-state poaching gangs in these incidents.

It may be mentioned that a gang of poachers had recently killed three tuskers inside the Sambalpur and Bamra forest range and taken away the tusks.

Expressing grave concern over the incident, the state Forest and Environment department had asked the Crime Branch to probe the matter.
