The Sambalpur police today took the eight accused in the Rs 1.42 crore cash seizure case on a 4-day remand for further interrogation.


The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here had yesterday allowed the police to take the accused on remand.

Though the cops had moved the court seeking a seven-day remand of the accused, it granted a four-day remand.

Notably, acting on a tip-off regarding an attempt to convert black money to white, police had conducted raid and seized Rs 1.42 crore including Rs 85 lakh in new currency notes from a liquor trader of Sunapali area of Sambalpur district on December 4.

While eight persons including a bank employee were arrested in connection with the incident, two pistols and a car were seized from their possession.
