Unidentified miscreants broke into at least six houses in Lingipur under Lingaraj police limits here in the wee hours of Thursday here and robbed valuables from two houses in the area.
According to reports, a gang of miscreants forcibly entered the house of Ashok Kumar Sahoo in Lingipur through the window after breaking it from the backyard of the house. Around 250 grams of gold ornaments worth over Rs 10 lakhs and Rs 3.5 lakh in cash was stolen from the cupboard in the bedroom while members of the family were sleeping in the room next to the bedroom.
“It was my wife who first spotted that the bedroom was locked from inside. Later, we found that the window was broken and the room was ransacked. We then entered the room and fond that all our valuables and cash were missing,” said Sahoo.
The miscreants also barged into the house of Subash Chandra Mohanty, a state government employee, located just 50 meters away from Sahoo’s house. Using the same method as in the previous burglary, they decamped with 200 grams of gold ornament worth over Rs 7 lakhs and Rs 21,000 in cash.
The miscreantsalso tried to barge into four other houses in the area, but failed.
As the modus operandi was the same in both cases, it is suspected that the same gang had executed the two burglaries. In the other four cases, they tried to get in through the door but failed, said police.
Meanwhile, the forensic team has started further investigation into the burglary case.
