Case lodged against senior Odisha cop over alleged ‘illegal’ acquisitions

Bhubaneswar, Sep 12:

Odisha Basti Sangharsh Samiti (OBSS), a city-based organisation fighting for the rights of slum dwellers and the poor, today lodged a complaint with the Capital Police Station here against the additional director general (ADG) Crime Branch BK Sharma for alleged illegal acquisition of government land in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

OBSS president Pratap Sahu alleged that the ADG Sharma had illegally acquired two government lands and one house in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack by presenting false affidavits to the concerned authorities to get residential land and house under the discretionary quota from Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Cuttack Development Authority (CDA).

The complaint gives details of the plots that the senior police official has allegedly acquired since 1992..

Repeated attempts to contact ADG Sharma failed as he did not respond to OST’s calls.

On the other hand, a senior police officer of Capital police station said; “Acting on the complaint of OBSS, we  have registered two station diaries  and have forwarded them to the Law department for verification of the legal status of the land and house reportedly possessed by the ADG.”

” We will act after getting definite directions from the Law department in the matter,” the police officer added.

It may be noted here that a similar case filed against Sharma last year was not upheld by a local court.
