In what could well be the first initiative of its kind in eastern India, the campus film society of KIIT University was inaugurated in the university campus in the Odisha capital today.
Inaugurating the campus film society, renowned Indian film maker Buddhadev Dasgupta said students can make better films if they have passion for it. Students have to watch more and more cinema, listen to music and read story and poems. By watching more films, they can analyze the change in film making trends, he added.
Premendra Mazumder, General Secretary of the Federation of Film Society of India said legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray established the first film society in the country in Kolkata way back in 1947. “Now there are more than 140 film societies in India with more than 100 campus film societies. Thirty seven of them are in Maharashtra alone,” he informed.
The federation of film societies of India will give all support to the KIIT campus film society, he assured.
As part of the film society movement, the federation of film societies will promote young film makers. Dr Sucheta Priyabadini, Director Student Services informed. Besides, many students as well as alumni of KIIT are now doing well in this field. Some of them have gained international recognition, she added.
Among others Himanshu Khatua, CEO, School of Film and Media Sciences, Baikunthnath Panigrahi, Director, School of Mass Communication, Adweita Gadnaik, Director, School of Sculpture were present on the occasion.
