Bhubaneswar, April 7:
With just one day left for campaigning for the first phase polls to be held on April 10, three chief ministers are busy making last minute efforts to woo the voters in western Odisha, defying intense heat wave and Maoist threats.
While the BJD supremo and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik held six back to back rallies in Sundargarh district urging the people to vote for the party candidates to help his government carry on developmental works in the region, senior BJP leader and Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh is campaigning at Jagatpur in Sundargarh district for party’s Lok Sabha candidate Jual Oram.
Similarly, Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren is campaigning for JMM candidates at Biramitrapur. JMM has fielded one candidate for the Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat and 7 candidates for the Assembly in Mayurbhanj district.
Naveen Patnaik, the only star campaigner for his party told people in Bonai, “Our party is committed to the development of the region and has taken up many developmental works in last 14 years. If we are voted back to power, we will approve all the decisions in the first council of ministers’ meeting that we have promised in the manifesto.”
He also criticised the Central government for neglecting the legitimate demands of the state and urged the people to cast their votes in favour of the BJD candidates. Patnaik was accompanied by Sundargarh Lok Sabha candidate Dillip Tirkey.
Ollywood star Anubhav Mohanty is also campaigning in western Odisha for BJD candidates.
Former national BJP president Venkaiah Naidu is canvassing for his party’s candidates in Rayagada, Gunpur and Paralakhemundi.
The Opposition Congress, on the other hand, is struggling hard to overcome the problems of desertions and internal strife following ticket distribution. However, it is also leaving no stone unturned to ensure it retains its seats in western Odisha.
While the AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi have concluded their campaign in southern Odisha, the state heavyweights are campaigning in western Odisha.
PCC chief Jayadev Jena had campaigned at Jharsuguda on Sunday with two Bollywood stars Aditya Pancholi and Priti Jhangiani.
Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Hemananda Biswal who is seeking his re-election to the Lok Sabha from the Sundargarh constituency is also busy campaigning with his band of supporters.
