Bhubaneswar: Odisha government today warned Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) to withdraw their proposed strike, a day ahead of the annual matriculation examination, or face action as per law.

This comes a day after the State government appealed to the farmers’ organization to desist from the agitation.

“The State Government had appealed to the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan yesterday to desist from the agitational activities in the State especially in the interest of approximately 6 lakhs students, their parents, teachers and others who are gearing up for the annual matriculation examination to be conducted from February 22 onwards. This is an important academic event for the career of the students and their better future,” a release said.

“If the Sangathan still persists with their planned Bandh programme, the State Government will be compelled to take all necessary measures to ensure smooth conduct of the examination. Action will be taken as per provisions of Law. It is hoped that the Organisers will realize their action could cause inconveniences to public especially the students’ community and withdraw their Bandh call in larger public interest,” it further stated.

Notably, the farmers’ body has called for a state-wide bandh on February 21 demanding price, prestige and pension for the farmers.

The opposition BJP and Congress as well as CPI (Maoists) have extended support to the bandh call.
